Research on extending mesothelioma sufferers life, while improving the quality, has opened up other potential treatments that differ from radiation or chemotherapy.
Two different researches from America have looked into various treatments.
One team from the Mayo Clinic have looked at ways to use a drug already manufactured and approved, which may be effective at targeting mesothelioma cells and starving them of nutrients and oxygen.
The second study carried out by the University of Minnesota has tried to manipulate the common measles virus by harnessing the tenacity of the virus to attack mesothelioma cells instead.
Whilst the study is still in its infancy, there is hope that this will turn out to be a safer method of attacking the mesothelioma cells, while preventing damage to the surrounding tissues.
